The Black Equality Coalition

"BEC is thrilled to present its accomplishments and future aspirations for 2023 - 2024. Despite being a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we have made a significant impact, positively affecting the lives of many. While we take pride in our 2023 achievements, we refuse to rest on our laurels. In 2024, we are committed to elevating our efforts within the community and achieving even greater success. We are eagerly anticipating the opportunities that lie ahead and are grateful to everyone who has supported BEC throughout 2023. BEC stands as a beacon of hope for the future of our youth and community."

- CEO & Founder, Anthony Curtis

Why we exist

African Americans in King County, WA are subjected to systemic, disproportionate racial discrimination in all key sectors of society, compounded with institutional sanctioned policies, practices and historical trauma that continues to negatively impact the stability and growth of the Black community in this present day. King County’s The Race Gap Report (2020) acknowledges that the county has played a role in perpetuating the ever-widening generational inequities/inequalities targeting communities of color.
