The UMI supports and empowers young Black individuals by connecting them with mentors who specialize in social and emotional learning, essential life skills, and entrepreneurship.
MENTORING PROGRESS
AT PANTHER LAKE
Over the past few years, the mentoring program progressed through clearly defined phases that aligned career exploration, skill-building, partnerships, and community engagement across the academic calendar.
The year 2023/24 began with a school-wide block party, serving the entire school community. The event included live performances, free food, games, prizes, and volunteer participation, and live performances, reinforcing community connection and celebrating student involvement and growth throughout the year.
The year continued successfully through sessions and activities geared toward making the mentoring program building trust and creating a safe space that allowed for student expression without judgement. Indoor and Outdoor activities focused on critical thinking, understanding your emotions and positive and healthy communication at school, in the community and at home.
