LORI'S CLOSET
Free Clothes & Essentials

Lori’s Closet is an initiative of the Black Equality Coalition (BEC), rooted in a simple but powerful belief: everyone deserves access to basic necessities with dignity.

OUR MISSION

Lori’s Closet exists to restore dignity, confidence, and hope by providing free clothing and essential items to individuals and families in need - especially serving Black, Brown, and underserved communities across King County and beyond.

We understand that clothing is more than fabric; it’s about self-worth, stability, and

the ability to show up in the world

with confidence.

WHO WE SERVE

We partner closely with schools, shelters, institutions, organizations, and local churches to support youth, families, and community members who are experiencing hardship. Whether it’s a student without a coat, a parent navigating transition, or a family

facing unexpected challenges, Lori’s Closet shows up with compassion and care - no questions asked.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

We offer every day and seasonal clothing for children, teens, and adults, ensuring people have what they need year-round. We also provide emergency clothing kits for schools and shelters, personal hygiene and care items, back-to-school supplies, and special holiday distributions to support families during

critical times of the year.

WHY IT MATTERS

We believe access to basic necessities should never come with shame or barriers. Lori’s Closet removes obstacles that often stand in the way of stability and opportunity for underserved families.

By meeting people where they are—with compassion, love, and a strong sense of community - we help eliminate basic need challenges and contribute to brighter,

more hopeful futures.

OUR IMPACT

2020 - 2025

Since its launch, Lori’s Closet has experienced consistent and meaningful growth. From 2020 to 2025, we have served 1,800+ families, with Black/African American families making up the largest group served annually. At the same time, we’ve seen significant growth across all racial groups, reflecting our inclusive, equity-centered outreach.

Program growth over this five-year period has been substantial. What began as one event in 2020 expanded to 25+ events by 2025. Items distributed grew from fewer than 100 items to more than 8,000 items annually. Collaborations and partnerships increased from 1 in 2020 to 15+ by 2025, strengthening our ability to serve the community.

COLLABORATION

2020-2025

These partnerships include 6 community service organizations, 6 shelters, 5 schools, and 3 faith-based organizations, and 5+ community groups - we are all working together to ensure families receive the support they need.

Lori’s Closet is more than an initiative - it’s a promise to show up, to care deeply, and to build community through love, service and action.
